Fresh Start for 2022

This is 2022, and it is a fresh start, a fresh new year and I have a lot I want to accomplish. First of all, I definitely have to thank God for getting me to this point and that 2021 was a good year for me, but this year I want to get every set and rep I can get in. I started back doing natural movement training and it so far feels good. I know by doing that daily, it will boost even bodyweight training and overall just become a better mover. I’ve also got back doing prowler training. I’ve maxed out at pushing and pulling 445lbs. It really hit my soul, haha but I’ve definitely felt all of my muscle groups firing up. Since I’m not a powerlifter or bodybuilder I have nothing against those styles of training, but for me moving a weight would translate better overall for me with movement. So I can treat prowler training like it is an auxiliary and keep calisthenics my primary form of training. Plus it will keep my joints right, improve them, and still strengthen everything. Due to my schedule, I can only prowler once per week.

I’ve started back doing pistol squats and the first time doing it, I definitely needed a chair and did fifteen sets of ten reps for each leg. The right leg was fine for me but the left leg definitely had a lagging feel to it. It definitely needs a lot more work of course but I was still able to get through the session. Then the following week I’ve decided to use the parallettes as a lower sticking point for the pistols and of course, it will be a struggle but it went well also. Last week my left leg did not have the nagging feeling I had from the first week anymore, so I’ve just kept improving on my quality of the repetitions. Right now I can do ten sets of six repetitions, definitely a big improvement for me. I would hope by the summertime I can get not only obtain more strength but fluid mobility from performing full pistol squats.

Pull-ups also went up in reps. I’ve got back to doing five sets of ten repetitions. Of course, I’ve started to break down by the third set doing seven to eight repetitions but the main thing is to catch a breath, tell your inner self that you can finish the set with good form and it will happen. It is just the self-belief and determination to pull it off. I am able to increase my finger pushups sets, I keep it at five reps only because for me I’ve noticed that with a lot of repetitions it can hit the fingers a bit hard. So I just increase the sets each week and treat it like its strength training and complement it with towel grip training. I love so far how this month treated me, and cannot wait for next month to continue to improve.
